At its core, this calculator does one thing: it converts a salary figure into an annual number, then derives every other pay period from that annual figure. If you enter an hourly rate, it multiplies by your hours per day, days per week, and 52 weeks to get an annual total. If you enter a monthly salary, it multiplies by 12. From that annual base, it divides back down — by 52 for weekly, by 26 for bi-weekly, by 12 for monthly, and by your actual hours or days worked for hourly and daily figures. The hours-per-day and days-per-week fields matter because they're the bridge between time-based pay (hourly, daily) and period-based pay (weekly, monthly, annual) — get them wrong and every conversion shifts.
The default assumes a standard 8-hour day and 5-day week, which covers most full-time roles, but the fields are fully editable. This makes the calculator equally useful for part-time schedules, compressed work weeks, or freelance contracts where the hours don't match a typical office job. It's also useful when comparing two job offers that quote pay differently — one as an hourly contract rate, the other as an annual salary — since converting both to the same period makes an apples-to-apples comparison possible.
It's important to be clear about what this tool does not do: it converts gross pay between time periods only, with no tax, benefits, or deduction calculations involved. The annual, monthly, or weekly figures it produces are before any withholding. Your actual take-home pay depends on factors this calculator has no visibility into — your local tax brackets, filing status, employer-specific deductions, retirement contributions, health insurance premiums, and other benefits elections. One subtlety worth knowing: this calculator computes monthly pay as annual ÷ 12, which is the most common convention. Some payroll systems instead calculate a "true" monthly figure from a weekly average (weekly × 52 ÷ 12), which can land a few cents off from a straight division. If you're reconciling this tool's output against an actual pay stub, that's the most likely source of a small discrepancy — not a bug in either calculation.
