Estimate your income tax for the US, UK, India, or Australia. See effective rate, marginal rate, and a full bracket breakdown.
Figuring out roughly how much income tax you'll owe shouldn't require a spreadsheet or a call to an accountant just to get a ballpark number. This calculator applies real bracket structures — the same progressive rate bands used by the US, UK, India, and Australia — to your gross income and any deductions you enter, then shows you the total tax, your effective rate, your marginal rate, and a breakdown of how much fell into each band. Everything runs locally in your browser the moment you click Calculate, so nothing about your income is uploaded or stored anywhere. It's built for quick planning and comparison, not for filing — for that, you'll still want a tax professional or your local tax authority.
Estimates only — not financial or legal advice. Brackets are simplified.

Most income tax systems are progressive, meaning they don't apply one flat rate to your entire income. Instead, income is split into bands — brackets — and each band is taxed at its own rate. The first slice of income might be taxed at 0% or 10%, the next slice at a higher rate, and so on up to whatever your top bracket is. This calculator walks your taxable income through each bracket in order, calculating the tax owed on just the portion that falls inside that band, and adds it all up to get your total tax. That's why the "marginal rate" — the rate on your top bracket — is almost always higher than your "effective rate," which is your total tax divided by your total income.
Before running the brackets, the calculator subtracts any deductions or allowances you enter from your gross income to get taxable income. This mirrors how standard deductions, personal allowances, and similar adjustments work in real tax systems — they reduce the amount of income that gets taxed in the first place, not the tax bill directly. Four bracket structures are built in: US Federal (Single filer), UK Income Tax, India's New Regime, and Australia's resident rates, each using their own currency and thresholds for the 2024–2025 period. Switching the Tax System dropdown swaps in the correct brackets and currency symbol automatically.
It's important to be clear about what this tool is and isn't. The brackets used here are simplified, illustrative reference figures — they are not pulled live from any government database and will not reflect mid-year law changes, new credits, or country-specific rules that don't fit a simple bracket model. Real tax liability also depends on factors this calculator doesn't model: filing status beyond a single default, tax credits, state or provincial taxes, self-employment adjustments, and phase-outs at higher incomes. Use the result as a fast, private estimate for budgeting or comparing scenarios — for example, checking how a raise or an extra deduction shifts your bracket — not as the number you'd put on an actual return.
If your income also needs to account for consumption taxes on purchases rather than tax on earnings, that's a different calculation entirely — see the VAT Calculator for adding or removing value-added tax from a price. For anything beyond a quick estimate, especially once your situation involves multiple income sources, credits, or a filing status other than the default, consult a licensed tax professional or your local tax authority — they can account for the details this simplified model intentionally leaves out.
