How PNG to PDF Conversion Works

A PDF is a container format: a document made up of pages, each of which can hold text, vector graphics, or embedded raster images, plus metadata that ties it all together. Because PNG supports an alpha transparency channel, it's worth knowing how that's handled once embedded in a PDF: the transparent regions of your PNG are preserved in the embedded image object, so if you later place other content behind that page or export it back out, the transparency information isn't discarded. This is one reason PNG to PDF conversion is a common choice for logos, diagrams, and UI screenshots that were exported with transparent backgrounds, as opposed to a JPG source which has no transparency to preserve in the first place.
