Generate placeholder text by words, sentences, or paragraphs. Configurable count with one-click copy.
Building or reviewing a design with placeholder copy that's all "asdf asdf" or a single repeated word makes it hard to judge how a layout will hold real content. This generator produces classic Lorem Ipsum filler text — by word, sentence, or paragraph count — so you can drop text-shaped content into a mockup, CMS template, or component before real copy is ready. Everything runs client-side in your browser; nothing you generate is sent to a server.

Lorem Ipsum isn't random gibberish — it's scrambled and adapted Latin lifted from a real passage in Cicero's "De Finibus Bonorum et Malorum" ("On the Ends of Good and Evil"), written in 45 BC. Printers have used variations of this text as dummy copy since at least the 1500s, and it re-entered common use in the 20th century through Letraset transfer sheets and later desktop publishing tools like Aldus PageMaker, which shipped with it as a default placeholder. That long history is part of why it's recognizable on sight to nearly every designer and developer — it functions as a shared visual signal for "this is filler, not final copy."
The reason placeholder text exists at all comes down to how people read. Real, meaningful sentences pull a reviewer's attention toward the words themselves — what they say, whether they're persuasive, whether they're grammatically correct — rather than toward the layout surrounding them. Lorem Ipsum sidesteps that. It approximates the letter-length and word-length distribution of genuine prose closely enough to look and behave like real text when laid out — it wraps, breaks into lines, and fills a container the way English does — without being legible as actual content in Latin that almost nobody reads fluently. That lets a designer or developer judge line height, column width, font pairing, or how a card component handles a long headline, without the noise of evaluating wording at the same time.
This generator produces three units: individual words, standalone sentences, and full paragraphs (each built from three to six sentences), with the count adjustable up to 500 words, 50 sentences, or 20 paragraphs. Checking "Start with Lorem ipsum" prepends the familiar opening line — "Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet, consectetur adipiscing elit" — so the output is instantly recognizable, with randomized text filling out the rest. Typical use cases include populating a CMS template before real articles are written, stress-testing how a UI handles unusually long or short text strings, and wireframing a page layout before content strategy is finalized.
If you need placeholder text that fits a specific length constraint — say, matching a real headline or meta description's character budget — generate a batch here and paste it into the Word Counter to check exactly how many words or characters you've got, then trim or regenerate until it fits.
